Partner Sync: What is it?

Partner Sync is a feature of the app with a few details that aren’t obvious, so I want to walk through them. What is it? Partner Sync lets one app user share their medical information with another user. When we started, the idea was simple: a spouse could update their information on their own phone and sync it to their husband or wife, so neither of them had to type it in twice. It also works if you’re caring for an elderly parent. They can update their information and share it with you and your spouse. Then we heard about a bigger use. A lady we know cares for her elderly mother, who goes back and forth between her house and a sibling’s. Both families have Senior Health Companion, and both have the mother as a profile. They can sync her information between the two households, so everyone has the same up-to-date records. Why it matters If there’s an emergency and you can’t speak for yourself, your spouse or caregiver can give a first responder or an emergency room team your curren...

APP Security

Image
App security This post is about app security, which matters because the app holds your medical information. If your phone is unlocked, anyone can tap the app and it opens, unless you’ve locked it. We recommend that you do. In Settings, under App Security , you can set a PIN to unlock the app. The app can also use Face ID or your fingerprint, depending on your device. The picture below shows the screen you’ll see when the app is locked. There are two ways in: enter your PIN, or use the face or fingerprint button next to the 0. Please remember your PIN. Your information is stored on your phone, not with us. If you don’t have your PIN or biometrics, we can’t get into the app for you. Remember it, or keep it somewhere secure. Emergency Access. The red button at the bottom of the lock screen says “View emergency info without unlocking.” If someone knows you have the app, they can tap it, even without your PIN, and see your Emergency Card. That gives a first responder the infor...

AI for Everyday

If you haven’t found our YouTube channel yet, we invite you to visit it: https://www.youtube.com/@companionapps We’re doing three things there: Videos from Sheila and me about the company and the apps we’re developing. Tutorials that use an iPad to walk through the features of the app. AI for Everyday : using AI to get the most out of it, and maybe make your life simpler. This post is about number three. We started all of this by learning about AI. There are many misconceptions about it, and there are also many good things. Separating the two, and using this new tool to improve your daily life, is what this part of the channel is about. Here are three things I’ve learned so far. AI can help protect you. While developing the app, I received an email that looked very official, and I believed it was from the patent and trademark office. It was a scam. I used AI to help me work out the right questions to ask, and when I asked them, the person on the other end hung up on me. If somet...

Always with you- what does that mean

We use the phrase “Always with You” on our website and in other places. What does it mean for Senior Health Companion? It means the health information you enter in the app stays on your phone. It’s like carrying a notebook with all your medical details, and it’s easy to look things up. With Senior Health Companion, your information lives on your phone or tablet, not in an account on a company server. Your information can leave your device in three specific ways, and each one starts with something you do: Exporting to print or share. You can export some or all of your information to print or send to someone. Before a doctor visit, I print my medication and supplement list. When the nurse asks to verify it, I hand it over. Exporting a backup. Because your information is on your device, losing the phone could mean losing the data. In Settings there’s a section to export a backup, and the app will show a reminder if it’s been more than 90 days since your last one. One important note: t...

What SeniorHealthCompanion Does: The Basics

SeniorHealthCompanion is an app that lets you keep your important medical information in one place, on your phone or tablet, where it’s easy to find and easy to read. It’s built around the information a first responder or emergency room would need to know about you. What you can store You can keep a list of all your medications and supplements, along with your surgeries, procedures, diagnoses, imaging, and more. You can also keep your insurance information and your care team, including your doctors, specialists, and pharmacy. Up to five profiles Here’s the bonus. The app supports up to five profiles, so you can keep information for yourself, your spouse, an elderly parent, or maybe a child who lives with you and needs care. When you visit a doctor or a medical facility and have to fill out all those forms, the information you need is already there. Sync with a partner You can also sync between phones or tablets. If I go to the doctor and get a new diagnosis or prescription, I can...

How SeniorHealthCompanion is different

When we started, I didn’t know that other apps like this already existed. Here is what makes SeniorHealthCompanion different. Designed for seniors. The app has three text sizes. Even the smallest is larger than in many apps we tried, and the large size works well on tablets. We aimed for high-contrast colors and buttons larger than many apps have, and we worked to make it easy to find your way around. Your data stays on your device. Your health records are stored on your phone or tablet, not on our servers. Some apps keep your data on their servers, so you need to know where it is and who can access it. With SeniorHealthCompanion, your health records leave your device only when you choose: when you sync with your spouse or a caregiver, when you export a PDF to print or email, or when you save a backup file. When you sync, the data is encrypted on your phone first, and the temporary copy is deleted automatically within 24 hours. We have no copy of your backup, so save one somewhere ...

What makes Senior HealthCompanion different

As we get older, we have more health and medical information to keep track of. Sheila and I wanted a good way to do it. There are many ways. As we talked with other seniors, we heard all kinds of answers: a Word document, Google Keep, the Notes app, a piece of paper kept in a wallet. And we all need that information every time we see a new doctor or visit a medical facility. One day I told Sheila I was going to create an app to keep all your medical data and history in one place. She gave me the “okay, whatever” look, because it’s not something I would ever have thought about. But I had recently been learning about AI, and it seemed like I could do it. It wasn’t as easy as you might think, but we did it. I’ll write a separate post about everything it took to build it. I also asked the doctors, nurses, and other medical professionals I was seeing, and they gave me great input and encouragement. I didn’t know at first that similar apps already existed. My next post covers how SeniorHealt...

What is SeniorHealthCompanion?

SeniorHealthCompanion is an app that helps you store and track your personal health data. As we’ve gotten older, the list of medications, procedures, and appointments keeps getting longer, and we struggled to keep track of it all. When we asked other seniors, we heard a variety of ways: notes on their phones, Word documents, even pieces of paper they carry with them. This app helps solve that problem. It’s free to download, and in this blog, we’ll discuss its features and what the app can and cannot do. We’re also going to cover basic AI information and how to make the most of it in everyday life. We know a lot of people use it, and we’re looking forward to sharing and learning. Join us for the journey.
