APP Security

 App security

This post is about app security, which matters because the app holds your medical information.

If your phone is unlocked, anyone can tap the app and it opens, unless you’ve locked it. We recommend that you do. In Settings, under App Security, you can set a PIN to unlock the app. The app can also use Face ID or your fingerprint, depending on your device.

The picture below shows the screen you’ll see when the app is locked. There are two ways in: enter your PIN, or use the face or fingerprint button next to the 0.

Please remember your PIN. Your information is stored on your phone, not with us. If you don’t have your PIN or biometrics, we can’t get into the app for you. Remember it, or keep it somewhere secure.

Emergency Access. The red button at the bottom of the lock screen says “View emergency info without unlocking.” If someone knows you have the app, they can tap it, even without your PIN, and see your Emergency Card. That gives a first responder the information they need to make the best treatment decisions for you.

There’s one thing to know: to reach this screen, the person has to be able to open your phone first. If your phone is locked, they can’t open the app at all.

That’s why we also recommend filling out your phone’s own emergency information. Both Apple (Medical ID) and Android (emergency information) let you store key medical details that can be viewed from the lock screen, without unlocking the phone. It takes a few minutes, and it’s worth doing in addition to the app.
